2016 has been an amazing year in the life of Hive Dalston. From documentaries to eco-parks and mayoral elections – the Hive and ReSpace have been involved in them all! Behind the scenes work has taken place on opening several new buildings all over London and the UK, on campaigns to breathe life back into London’s music scene, on transportation, on energy generation and holistic health. We are working on food distribution and on innovative tech solutions. We hope that next year we are able to push forward with our mission to enable more and more people to create their own Hives by building a complete infrastructure to hold it all together. But we are going to need help – and lots of it! Our trajectory has been steep and all of a sudden we find ourselves in a position to make a difference – so we need great, skilled and committed people to contribute. From new crews for buildings to ideas for sustainability, from growing skills to IT know how and social media expertise. We have so much going on and so much potential to work on. Join us and let’s make space and time free again!
We are holding a unique open evening where we will present a number of the different projects lined up for early 2017 and you can find out what you can do to help. Come along and spread the word. If you can’t make that date – drop us a line and let us know how you can contribute. 🙂
The open evening is on Wednesday 30th November at 6:30pm in the Hive Cafe.
In the early days of the Hive we were lucky enough to have a visit from the Tashi Lhunpo monks from the Dalai Lama’s monastery in Southern India. Over 3 days they made a beautiful sand mandala that they then swept into the local canal in a beautiful ceremony.

Is your property empty?Worried about the property becoming dilapidated?Want to engage with the local community?
We transform empty properties, into buzzing community and social centres offering exciting and fresh experiences for the local community while delivering genuine benefits to Landlords, Developers and Councils.
And don’t worry -when you are ready you will get your property back not only in it’s original condition but transformed. Unlike Property Guardianship companies, ReSpace Projects is a Community organisation designed to use buildings and resources to strengthen, enable and empower local communities to unite and sustain. But whats in it for you?
It is widely known that landlords can benefit from lending their empty properties for meanwhile use – by paying lower rates and guaranteeing the safeguard of their buildings – but community interest groups such as ReSpace are usually hindered by a lack of finances and resources that would allow for the smooth transition between temporary spaces.
This renders them at a disadvantage when being considered for such spaces. Forced to resort to an ever dwindling pot of funding, many organisations and great ideas barely get off the ground. Often this results in the building being occupied by ‘property guardian’ companies and so remains a problem which devalues the local economy and community.
ReSpace Projects have developed their model to alleviate some of this imbalance by intelligently re-using and sharing wasted resources, creating the infrastructure and connections to enable them to manifest such projects relatively simply.
