We wanted to start a dialogue between actors <strong>that often don\u2019t get the chance to talk to one another<\/strong> \u2013 such as developers and architects, communities and planners, councils and academics. Participants commented that such interactions were <strong>important for healthy urban development<\/strong>, but that there was a lack of opportunity. It was a packed two-day schedule of talks and panel discussions, from <strong>politicians, planners, councillors, academics, architects and activists<\/strong>, across two floors where they&nbsp;debated key issues faced by Londoners. Rather than trying to lobby City Hall for policy changes, we invited them to the Hive to see the benefits of the system for themselves.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">Conference Two: \u2018<strong>Infrastructure\u2019 and Hustings.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>The ReSpacing Conference and Hustings<\/strong> featured a \u2018<strong>dragons\u2019 den<\/strong>\u2019 style event on day one, where new projects could pitch their ideas for community projects, and have feedback from a panel of experts. An <strong>open-space discussion<\/strong> took place in the afternoon, to agree a list of questions to be put to the 2016 mayoral candidates and representatives at <strong>the hustings the following day<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-813 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/uk.respaceprojects.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/shaunconf.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"246\" height=\"138\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt; color: #000000;\">\u201cImagine 150 years from now, The Hive [concept] works, this will be an historical moment\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">Shaun Bailey, Conservative Party representative<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">At our mayoral hustings, which featured <strong>Sian Berry<\/strong> for the Greens, Conservative <strong>Shaun Bailey<\/strong>, <strong>Adrian Trett<\/strong> Liberal Democrat, <strong>George Galloway<\/strong> for Respect, we gained cross-party commitment to support a \u2018respace classification\u2019, which would cut red tape and administrative costs for councils and property owners. Labour\u2019s <strong>Tom Copley<\/strong>, London Assembly member was unwell on the day but has been an active supporter of the project from the beginning, <strong>recommending ReSpace Projects<\/strong> to the fire service to make use of their empty stations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">The politicians took their seats on a stage made by people, some of whom have been homeless. This coincided with the release of early figures from our social impact report.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">We are planning on holding regular conferences or &#8220;City Makers Meetings&#8221; for members of RALLY &#8211; to be hosted at various projects.
